Parades Commission Unworkable

A small but significant article published in the Newsletter on Tuesday grabbed my attention.

NORTHERN Ireland should consider close examination of the Scottish model for dealing with contentious parades issues, it was suggested yesterday. UUP MLA David McNarry urged consideration of the parading laws in Scotland, after Scottish First Minister Jack McConnell told MLAs that Scots had rejected the idea of a parades commission as unworkable. Instead, fresh laws on public demonstrations were introduced and found to be successful there. “I think Northern Ireland should at the very look at what’s been happening in Scotland,” said Mr McNarry.
